WHAT'S NEW WITH AJ?

Do John Cena's relationships leave him the most vulnerable?

By Marisa

And now, of course, we have AJ Lee.

The “are they or aren’t they” debate surrounding Cena and the former Raw GM seems, for all intents and purposes, to be settled at this point. They “are,” even if they weren’t before. And yet again, Cena finds himself with an enemy – Dolph Ziggler – who is using John’s connection with another person to hit the Cenation leader where it hurts the hardest: his heart. The Showoff’s snarky game plan has already led to a bum knee for Cena after he attempted to save AJ from Ziggler and was driven through a row of bathroom stalls as a result. It hasn’t translated to in-ring losses yet, but to Cena’s credit, he does seem to see the writing on the wall this time around.

“I will do my best to keep my personal life ... personal,” Cena said on Twitter, intimating his focus would be firmly on Ziggler and then whatever came next. Moreover he said that he is done with kissing AJ.

The evolution of the Divas division

By Anthony Benigno

Some of the WWE Universe might say the Divas division has been diminished, having lost a whole half-dozen of its best and brightest over the past twelve months. And it’s true: at least in terms of depth, fate carved quite the swath through WWE’s women’s division in 2012, but the depletion has also initiated a new era of opportunity for the remaining Divas. In one turn around the sun, Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix, Maxine, Kharma and The Bella Twins have all left WWE, with no small amount of shock.

At first glance, that’s a sudden, dark cloud hanging over one of WWE’s most time-honored divisions. But the whole process has turned out to be something along the lines of an evolution for the Divas. True, the abrupt change in the Divas’ landscape has been jarring for the WWE Universe. But the transformation seems to us a breath of fresh air, a chance at a fresh start, and an opportunity to redefine the very definition of a WWE Diva.

AJ. How many women do you know who went from the suppressed gal pal of a raging egomaniac to the former GM and occasionally vengeful sprite who put said egomaniac through a table, dumped him at the altar, took control of the show on which he wrestled and forced him into anger management within the span of a year?

But it’s tough to find a better Diva success story in the new landscape than Eve. She began 2012 as the archaically prototypical image of a woman in a man’s world: A damsel in distress, at the mercy of Kane and the object of Zack Ryder’s unrequited affections. Since then she changed the course of WWE single-handed with The Low Blow Heard ‘Round the World that installed John Laurinaitis as supreme GM. She then elevated herself to a position of power in not one but two separate administrations, recaptured the Divas title and revealed herself to be a dangerous jiu-jitsu practitioner worthy of the Gracie blue belt she earned outside the ring. She also won the million-dollar reality show, NBC’s “Stars Earn Stripes,” where she participated in a genuine boot camp.

In other words, The Divas division remains, as it always has, one of WWE’s premier attractions, only now it’s new and improved. The women who compete here are strong, proud, and they pack a punch as well, with no desire to sit on the sidelines as a pretty face. They’re working and fighting each week to achieve their goals, and they’re hitting their peaks one at a time. Between their successes in the ring and the boardroom – 2012 has brought us Executive Administrator Eve, Raw GM AJ and Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero – this the new breed of Diva, hard-boiled and business-savvy in equal measure.

AJ FEATURE IN NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

By Rheana Murray / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

New Jersey native spent part of her childhood eating at food banks and living in cars and motel rooms. Now she's hit the big time and will perform in Newark and at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

AJ Lee lays a wicked drop-kick on fellow diva Laya. Lee and her fellow WWE superstars will perform at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Dec. 16.
Next to a row of trophies and trading cards in her office, the most popular woman in the WWE keeps a golden nameplate from Pathmark supermarket — a reminder of life before the ring.

Emblazoned with the words, “100 percent employee,” it’s what wrestling superstar AJ Lee wore as a cashier in her native New Jersey.

“I liked being a janitor more than that,” AJ, whose real name is April Mendez, told the Daily News. “You’re on your feet all day. People kind of look right through you.”

Before life as a WWE Diva, scraping for cash was the norm. AJ spent a hard-knock childhood eating at food banks and living in cars and motel rooms across the Garden State.

“I didn’t have the easiest time growing up; it’s no secret,” she said. “We were just poor.”

But she grew up watching wrestling on TV, and told her family at age 12 she wanted a career in the ring. And after working the independent circuit in her late teens, she was signed by the WWE at age 21.

Now with big WWE appearances in Newark and at Barclays Center in Brooklyn in the next two weeks, she’s coming home on top.

AJ Lee looks just as good in a tie as she does slamming opponents in the WWE.

In her whirlwind career, AJ has run the ring, worked as general manager for “Raw” and won fans over with her steamy, on-screen romance with wrestler John Cena — no easy feat for a self-described comic book geek who hardly fits the voluptuous mold of a typical Diva.
“Selling the package as me was really hard,” said the 25-year-old wrestler. “I’m not the sexy girl. I’m more youthful and innocent, the girl who wears jeans and T-shirts and sneakers.

'Fans have accepted that I’m a tomboy,' Lee says. "There’s a different group of people who find that attractive.'

“But fans have accepted that I’m a tomboy. There’s a different group of people who find that attractive.”
Many of them, she said, are in New York.
“There’s something about the fans in that area,” she said. “They’re more extreme; they’re smarter. Every time we go somewhere in the tristate, there are people who remember me from six years ago. It’s like a homecoming.”

Raw Five-Point Preview: Dec. 3, 2012

By Anthony Benigno

Cena and AJ, sittin’ in a tree …

Well, that escalated quickly. Only two weeks ago, John Cena vehemently denied any and all allegations of inappropriate canoodling with AJ Lee while she was on the job as Raw General Manager. Fast forward to today, and the Cenation leader is snogging Miss Lee (who, by the way, is no longer Raw GM and free to date whoever she wants. It’s true. We checked) while fending off the ferocious sneak attacks of Dolph Ziggler all at the same time. That’s a mighty quick turnaround and we commend you, Cena, but now comes the potential fallout: Cena’s relationships tend to bring ruin on all involved, and Ziggler has already proven himself a stiff challenge for the relationship-saddled Cena. Will the 10-time WWE Champion buck history this time and balance business with pleasure accordingly? Or does The Showoff have him dead to rights?

A Reunion, AJ Lee and Kaitlyn defeated Rosa Mendes and Eve Torres.

AJ Lee def. Tamina Snuka

Call it the Diva David and Goliath: AJ Lee has defeated Tamina Snuka.

Following Tamina's sneak attack of the former Raw General Manager at Survivor Series, the incomparable Miss Lee pulled off a showstopping upset in the Greenboro Coliseum, tapping into her inner hellion and withstanding Tamina's powerful offense with the stamina of a veteran. Tamina showed AJ no quarter, manhandling her for minutes on end until AJ struck, rolling Tamina up while she prepared for the Superfly Splash. The win left Vickie Guerrero's seemingly self-appointed muscle stewing in the ring, but AJ didn't stick around to see what came next, retreating up the ramp with her health intact and a win under her belt.

SEASON’S GREETINGS FROM WWE!

Dec.5th

Does Mr. McMahon regret hiring Vickie Guerrero as Managing Supervisor?

AJ Lee lasted 92 days as the General Manager of Raw before her abrupt resignation.

At this rate, Vickie Guerrero might be lucky if she lasts nearly that long as Managing Supervisor.

For the second time in Guerrero's short tenure, WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon returned to Raw to alter Vickie's matchmaking decisions heading into a pay-per-view. First, The Chairman's influence caused Guerrero to take CM Punk out of a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match so he would instead defend his WWE Championship against Ryback and John Cena in a Triple Threat Match. Then on Monday night, Mr. McMahon made a surprise appearance to ensure Vickie didn't let bias cloud her judgment and added extra spice to WWE TLC in the process.

If Mr. McMahon was truly satisfied with Vickie's performance as Managing Supervisor, why would he feel the need to step back into the picture and force her hand in front of the whole WWE Universe? Is he already realizing Guerrero may have been the wrong choice to take over day-to-day duties as Raw searches for its next General Manager following AJ Lee's controversial resignation?

As Mr. McMahon eyed her down in the center of the ring on Raw, Guerrero tried to impress The Chairman by making an "epic" John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler match for WWE TLC. But it wasn't what Mr. McMahon wanted to hear, and Guerrero quickly found herself scrambling just to keep her approval rating on steady ground.

"If you really wanted to make it epic, Vickie, then you would add a stipulation of some kind," Mr. McMahon shot back convincingly. "Let's make it big! Come on."

After being pressed by Mr. McMahon, Vickie attempted to make Cena vs. Ziggler a No Disqualification Match. Not satisfied with that either, Mr. McMahon literally had to whisper the stipulation he preferred in her ear to get Vickie to make it a Ladder Match with The Showoff's Money in the Bank contract on the line. When Guerrero expressed her concern that it wasn't fair to Ziggler, The Chairman questioned whether it was fair the WWE Universe had to be subjected to Vickie and Dolph constantly perpetuating the "AJ scandal" — or, as he put it bluntly, "this crap."

Mr. McMahon wasn't done there. As The Queen Diva tried to stumble her way out of the precarious predicament in the ring, The Chairman coaxed another decision from Guerrero. If CM Punk was found to be lying during the lie detector test administered by The Miz, then the "mastermind," Paul Heyman, would have to face Ryback on next week's Raw.

"Yeah! That's my girl, Vickie Guerrero," Mr. McMahon excitedly shouted. "Let's hear it for Vickie!"

While The Chairman was certainly pleased with the result of his meddling, it was soon clear that not everyone was. Later backstage, both Ziggler and Heyman made it a point to get in Vickie's face about her choices directed by Mr. McMahon. The Showoff seemed especially upset, telling his former manager they weren't on the same page and Vickie was starting to resemble AJ Lee.

In the end, though, it's only one man's opinion that makes the difference between Guerrero keeping her job and being knocked off her pedestal of power completely. For one night at least, it appears Vickie kept the demanding Chairman happy enough to remain Managing Supervisor. How long she'll be able to keep doing that, however, is anyone's guess.
